Western affects on China
In my opinion I think that China had the worst relationship with the west. In 1700's China was doing great, they were a strong country. Once the British started to sell opium to the Chinese for silver, everything started to go down hill. A large percentage of people in China got really addicted to this drug. There was a huge amount of silver going right out of China for opium. The government tried really hard to stop the trade for opium, but no one listened. In 1839, China destroyed a huge shipment of opium from Britain which declared a war between them. The Britain's easily won because of their new and improved guns. Since this happened China had to give Britain 20 million dollars, new ports, Hong Kong and let the trading of opium to continue. From there on China has had a bad relationship with the west starting with just a highly addictive drug.
